A light-coloured (almost white), semi hard cheese with a light white mould. It has a mild taste, with its most noticeable feature being a pleasant slightly sour tang.
It is rumoured that the cheese was developed over time to provide the coal miners of the area with a convenient way of replenishing the salt lost through hard work over ten hour shifts underground and so was a staple of the diet of the coal-miners.
Real Farmhouse Caerphilly production died out during World War II as all milk had to go to the Cheddar factories to help the war effort. After the war these factories started making their version of Caerphilly (initially to help their cash flow as Caerphilly matures quicker than Cheddar), which is how it is mostly known today, dry and crumbly. However, there are now two or three farms making original Caerphilly which is dry in the middle and creamy around the edges.
How should I use this cheese?
A very versatile cheese to use either in cooking, crumbled over vegetables, or as part of a cheese board.
We can post orders all over Australia.
We post all internet orders every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We DO NOT send on Thursdays and Fridays as we do not want to risk the cheese sitting at a post office over the weekend getting hot.
It takes 2 days to travel to most capital cities; however it can take up to 3 days for more remote areas.
The cheese is transported in a Styrofoam esky with chemical ice that does not leak liquid. The cheese is then packed in bubble wrap and shredded paper to help protect the products.
Your order come with its own tracking number so if it does not arrive on time or is lost please contact us and we will contact Australia post to resolve the issue.
Please make sure you are home on the day of delivery. If you are not home then Australia Post will try to call you on the details you have provided with this order. Sometimes they will not call you and simply leave a note in your letter box telling you to pick it up from your local post office. If this occurs please retrieve it ASAP so that you receive your cheese in its best condition.
If you are not ordering any cheese and only products that do not need to be sent chilled, please email us your order as we can send it to you as regular post at a cheaper rate.
Some cheeses are more fragile than others. The softer the cheese the more fragile it is in postage. We pack all orders to the best of our abilities however we are sometimes limited by space and weight and trying to keep it all cool sometimes makes things very tricky.
Thank you for your order and enjoy
